Nutcracker Kids in rehearsal
Ever wondered what it’s like to be one of the young dancers in Oregon Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker? The ballet is a holiday tradition, and this year’s production includes almost a hundred kids of various sizes and levels of dance experience. Kids (and adults) spend almost three months learning their parts and rehearsing at OBT’s studios.
We spent a day behind the scenes as the kids rehearsed one Saturday. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the video.
You’ll see Gavin Larsen, one of OBT’s principal dancers, working with the young angels-in-training; and Kevin Poe working with a group of older kids on the party scene. Kevin’s role is to make sure that the young dancers stay true to George Balanchine’s original choreography.
