New Shows coming to KMHD

In a few weeks, (beginning Monday, August 6th) KMHD will be adding new shows (and some old favorites) to our weekly schedule. We’re proud to bring you:

JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater (Mondays, 6-7 PM)

Hosted by Jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, JazzSet features musicians in performance, in clubs, festivals and on NPR stations, remixed in Surround Sound. The show also features interviews and insight with players & vocalists in their element, and context provided by the award-winning JazzSet production crew.

Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland/Rising Stars (Tuesdays, 6-7 PM)

Jazz legend Marian McPartland continues to showcase the world’s top musicians on NPR’s longest-running jazz program. Also included is Piano Jazz Rising Stars, hosted by pianist Jon Weber, this 13 episode series highlights the jazz legends of tomorrow, and follows the winning combination of talk and music heard on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz for over 30 years.

Jazz at Lincoln Center (Wednesdays, 6-7 PM)

Hosted by Wendel Pierce, Jazz at Lincoln Center features themes and performances from the legendary Lincoln Center in midtown Manhattan. Well researched and curated, the program explores the stories, trends, heralded and unheralded masters that have contributed to the Jazz story.

American Routes Jazz Mix (Thursday, 6-7 PM)

American Routes Jazz Mix is a weekly one-hour program curated specifically for KMHD’s format. Produced in New Orleans, and presenting a broad range of American music — blues and jazz, gospel and soul, and Latin. Now in it’s 15th year on the air, American Routes explores the shared musical and cultural threads in these American styles and genres of music — and how they are distinguished.

The songs and stories on American Routes describe both the community origins of our music, musicians and cultures — the “roots”— and the many directions they take over time — the “routes.”

These new programs will add a new dimension to our weekday sound at KMHD. We’re also working up a new show with Bob Lubach, host of “Take 5 at 6″ – the program that existed in this slot previously.

We hope you’ll enjoy these new programs on KMHD!

  1. Radio Lover Says:

Please air the full three-hour broadcast of American Routes.  It’s a beautifully-produced show, in line with KMHD’s mission, and many, many people are mourning its loss from OPB.

  2. Jazz Fan Says:

If you are bringing back Marian McPartland, Jazz Set, and Lincoln Center (all of which I applaud), why, oh why, can’t you bring back John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey??  I love Christa and Divaville, but I don’t need to hear that program twice.  I would love to hear Pizzarelli/Molaskey back on Saturday afternoons!
